Strategic Grantmaking & Philanthropy

Traditional philanthropy traps grassroots organizations in survival cycles by tying capital strictly to short-term outputs. Piece by Piece deploys capital by building trusted ongoing relationships with leaders who have long-term vision. We focus on the integrity of the process, ensuring funding builds durable infrastructure that answers to the communities on the ground.

We construct our grantmaking around a three-part framework: Whole People (resourcing individual organizers), Whole Organizations (aligning internal governance), and Whole Ecosystems (merging networks through shared infrastructure).

Our philanthropic approach operates on three strategic tracks:

Unlocking Capital for Organizing

We partner with donors, intermediaries, and national philanthropic coalitions to move resources directly into civic infrastructure and community advocacy groups. We guide funders to resource people-led operations and build collaborative donor projects aligned around shared power-building goals.

Shifting Philanthropic Culture

We organize donor communities to build regenerative, long-term funding models. We run political briefings specifically for funders, building shared frameworks for equity and repair so their internal culture matches their external mission.

Leading Through Execution

We build and test new funding models through our own internal vehicles to prove our strategies in the field. By embedding participatory decision-making through what we call Power Tables, we ensure the capital is directed by the organizers actually doing the work. We advise foundations based on this direct execution and modeling.

Our Active Funds

Through our own capital deployments, we model exactly what relationship-driven grantmaking looks like in practice.

The Resilience Solidarity Fund

APPLY

We welcome applications on a rolling basis.

The Resilient Solidarity Fund will make grants to people & organizations working to:

  • Keep people safe
  • Organize mutual aid & care
  • Create space for health and wellness
  • Safeguard resiliency and solidarity

DETAILS

We’re moving $10,000 each month, with trust and care at the center.

This fund is focused on reparative solidarity – a recognition that our access to funding is not neutral, and that equity means moving resources to those who have been systematically denied them.

We’re not waiting for permission to act. We’re not asking for lengthy funding proposals. We’re not leaving applications “on read” for months on end.

The Youth & Student Fund

We invest in the next generation of movement leadership by resourcing youth-led organizations and civic engagement projects. We deploy rapid response grants, leadership coaching, and intergenerational peer-learning spaces. We treat youth organizing as a living ecosystem, giving young people the tools, education, and developmental space they need to thrive and experiment.

The Southern Wholeness & Capacity Fund

We direct unrestricted, core operating grants and capacity-strengthening capital to Southern base-building organizations. We fund strategic planning, cross-state partnerships, and the direct funds required to get organizers in the same room.

We pair our core grants with direct coaching on donor engagement, budgeting, and financial management to ensure organizations eventually become sustaining. We pay for structural audits, including board training and organizational health assessments. We also deploy financial bridge capital for leaders navigating succession, burnout, or restructuring to stabilize the sector.

Finally, we actively map to identify overlaps and deploy capital to fund shared infrastructure and cross-organization staffing. This reduces overhead and makes the regional movement more efficient.

Let’s get to work.
